I arrived on this island one week ago today and was promptly lei’d. I forgot to take a picture amongst all the excitement of finally being on Kauai for good.
The first thing we did was go to Duke’s Canoe Club for a salad bar dinner. It’s tradition.
On Tuesday morning I woke up to torrential downpour. On Wednesday it was the same. It rains a lot here. I love everything about it. I guess that’s why Kauai is called the Garden Island. Everything is so lush and green. I wish I could bottle up some of this rain and send it back to California.
My first two days in Kauai were spent shopping and exploring. I went to Costco in Lihue and was kind of shocked at how healthy my Costco haul was considering there were a bunch of Hawaiian treats taunting me down every aisle. I put back the chocolate dipped dried mango before getting to the register.
Ray bought me a beautiful orchid and I used it to decorate our place.
Marley hung out with me and kept me company while Ray was at work.
I spent the rest of my weekdays last week exploring old Koloa town and Poipu on my own. I also worked on my tan. It’s getting there but I don’t quite blend in with the locals just yet.
I spent 2 hours on Friday running, jogging, and walking around my neighborhood. I must have done something to my ankle because I’ve been limping around since then. I think it’s an old soccer injury coming back to haunt me.
On Friday night Ray and I went to Art Night in Hanapepe. We really wanted to go and check out the scene and the food trucks. It’s something fun worth checking out if you’re ever visiting Kauai.
We got up early on Saturday morning to search for sunrise seashells. I think we got there too late because they were all gone. Either that, or the south swell wasn’t strong enough. It was still fun though.
Then we drove back to Old Koloa Town for breakfast at La Spezia afterwards.
We got invited to one of Ray’s friend’s birthday BBQs in Hanapepe on Saturday night. The food was amazing, and I’m really glad a lot of people here on Kauai try to eat healthy.
We got up Sunday morning and went to Waiohai with Ray’s cousin Frank and his friend Blake. The boys surfed for an hour while I worked on my tan. I also attempted to surf. Not really, though. I paddled out but my ankle was too sore for me to even think about standing up. I’ll try again when my ankle is healed.
We just cruised the rest of Sunday afternoon. We rented the movie Interstellar and stayed inside with a bunch of fans on because it was too hot and humid to do anything else.
Needless to say, it’s been a great week. I kind of feel like I’m on vacation and will need to go back to California soon. But that’s not the case. So this week brings on job hunting because living in paradise isn’t cheap.
Hope you guys had an amazing week.
